Dr. Hsin-Nan Lin was born and grew up in Taiwan. He obtained his medical degree from the National Taiwan University, and received his residency training in Department of Neurology and Psychiatry , National Taiwan University Hospital. Before his retirement from National Taiwan University in 2004, he had served as director of Department of psychiatry, National Taiwan University; superintendent of provincial Taoyuan Psychiatry Hospital; vice-superintendent of National Cheng-Kung University Hospital; President of Taiwanese Society of Psychiatry. During his years in National Taiwan university, his major interests in psychiatric field included geriatric psychiatry, psychiatric pharmacotherapy, and forensic psychiatry. In addition to psychiatry, he has studied theology and got the degree of bachelor of theology and master of arts in religion from Taiwan Theological College and Seminary. He is now a visiting consultant psychiatrist in National Taiwan University Hospital and teaching staff at several theological colleges.
